AppleCare+ is Apple's extended warranty tier that protects devices against manufacturing defects and accidental damage. Standard prepaid AppleCare+ plans are tied directly to the device's serial number and IMEI, automatically transferring to a new owner upon resale without any paperwork.
However, monthly AppleCare+ subscriptions present a significant risk on the secondhand market. These monthly plans are tethered strictly to the original owner's Apple ID and credit card. If the seller cancels their monthly payment immediately after handing you the phone, the premium coverage drops instantly, leaving the new buyer unprotected.
