Blacklist (GSMA)

The GSMA Blacklist is a centralized global database (Equipment Identity Register) where cellular carriers record the IMEI numbers of devices reported as lost, stolen, or involved in financial fraud. Once an IMEI is flagged on this list, participating carriers worldwide will block the hardware from authenticating on their cellular towers.

This system operates on automated synchronization protocols; when a local carrier flags an IMEI, the update is pushed to the global registry, rendering the phone useless for cellular communication (essentially a Wi-Fi-only paperweight) within hours. Only the original account holder can legally request the removal of a carrier block by paying the outstanding balance or verifying they recovered their lost property.
